Assistant Brewer

6 and 40 Assistant Brewery and Taproom seeks a qualified candidate for a part-time brewing position. The Assistant Brewer reports to the Head Brewer and is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of 6 and 40 Brewery and Taproom beer production. The Assistant Brewer will have a fundamental understanding of the brewing process, all day to day operations, processes and equipment. The Assistant Brewer will have very strong communication and be able to collaborate with team members. The Assistant Brewer will have the ability to immediately address, troubleshoot and correct any issues that may arise in production. The Assistant Brewer will have a trained palate and the ability to identify and mitigate off flavors to ensure brand compliance. The Assistant Brewer will follow all established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to comply with safety and quality standards.

The Assistant Brewer is a part-time position scheduled Monday through Friday.  General duties include but are not limited to:

  • Operation of 7BBL brewhouse
  • Wort production
  • CIP of fermentation vessels and serving tanks
  • Racking and transferring finished beer into serving tanks
  • Fermentation management
  • Daily logging of gravity and pH
  • Record keeping
  • Regularly scheduled maintenance of brewery and serving equipment
  • Washing both 1/2BBL and 1/6BBL kegs along with essential festival equipment
  • Maintaining inventory of beer, seltzer and hard sodas for service in the taproom

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2 years professional brewing experience
  • Brewing Sciences certificate or 4-year degree in related field preferred

Requirements

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and walk on uneven surfaces.
  • Must be able to climb stairs/ladders, work at heights above 12 ft., and lift up to 150 lbs.
  • Able to stand for prolonged periods
  • Experience using a forklift a plus
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 75 lbs
  • Must be able to work in cold, hot, or wet conditions
